Hi Little One

Everett is at a really fun stage right now. At nearly six weeks, he’s finally staying awake longer in the daytime, giving me smiles and staring at me with his beautiful eyes. His expressions always make me laugh. He made it from 8:30pm-5:30am last night–his longest stretch yet. I feel so refreshed I’m not really sure what to do with myself. Of course I still woke up a couple times in the night to check on him, but there he lay in his crib: sleeping  peacefully and beautifully. I think I missed him in the night because I shot out of bed when his sweet cry woke me up right around 5:30 from his nursery.

One of the many perks of being a mom? The second he hears my voice, the tears stop and he stares at me again. I wish I could make every second with him last forever, but I know I have to simply enjoy these moments as they happen, and do my best to remember them sweetly. I will never be able to explain to him how very much I love him or how thankful I am that I am his mother.  Last night my grandma was over, and after we put him to bed, we went into his nursery together to peek at him. We just stood there, mesmerized by Everett sleeping, and as we hugged each other, she said, “I knew he would be perfect, Kelly. I knew it.”

‘Everett’ was her mother’s maiden name.

Loving can heal
Loving can mend your soul
And it’s the only thing that I know
I swear it will get easier
Remember that with every piece of ya
And it’s the only thing we take with us when we die

We keep this love in this photograph
We made these memories for ourselves
Where our eyes are never closing
Our hearts were never broken
Time’s forever frozen still

So you can keep me
Inside the pocket
Of your ripped jeans
Holdin’ me closer
‘Til our eyes meet
You won’t ever be alone

And if you hurt me
That’s OK, baby, only words bleed
Inside these pages you just hold me
And I won’t ever let you go…
