Ten Ways to Love Your Life More

Life is a busy, chaotic, and beautiful mess. It may seem impossible to “stop and smell the flowers”, but here are ten habits to practice to get the most out of the time you spend on the earth.

  1. Breathe. Go outside every single day. Even if it’s for 30 seconds. Fresh air does well with the soul.
  2. Put a stamp on it. Write casual snail mail just because. It’s the best to give and to get. And of course, write thank you notes when people do nice things for you.
  3. Recycle, donate, trash. Don’t need it? Get rid of it. Declutter your physical space and in turn, declutter your mind.
  4. Hydrate. Keep a reusable water bottle at your side. Take it with you everywhere. Notice the difference in your energy, skin, and overall wellness when you’re sipping. If water bores you, add lemons or frozen fruit. Look forward to something you can make yourself every day. Maybe it’s a smoothie, maybe it’s the perfect cup of coffee. Take the time to make it, and enjoy every moment of sipping.
  5. Organize. It is possible to have a “go with the flow” attitude while still being punctual and detail-oriented.  Keep a planner and make a point of remembering people’s birthdays, being on time, and committing to plans. You’ll be glad you did.
  6. Dial. Talk on the phone to a friend, significant other, or relative once a week. Even if it’s just to say hi. It’s a small gesture that is much more meaningful than a text message. Strong relationships take effort.
  7. Move your body. Allow yourself to exercise. Don’t think of it as punishment, but rather as something you owe to yourself. Even just a quick walk is so much better than nothing.
  8. Disconnect. Put your phone down once in a while…especially over a meal or when you’re with other people. BE PRESENT.
  9. Read. If you can’t stand the thought of sitting still through a whole book, read a news article, a magazine, a Twitter timeline, anything that will expose you to words and cause you to think a little extra each day. From this reading, learn new words, use your imagination, and grow.
  10. Forgive. Move on from instances where you were wronged. It’s okay not to forget, but leave the past in the past, and start enjoying the moment that is now. And most importantly, learn from your own mistakes and free yourself from guilt. You’re doing the best you can.
